During talks with Speaker of the British House of Lords John Mcfall in London on Wednesday, National Assembly Chairman Hue suggested that the two countries organize activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year. He expressed Vietnam’s wishes to learn from Britain's experience in law making, including a legal framework, policies and mechanisms to support the Government’s delivery of international commitments.

National Assembly Chairman Hue emphasized that the UK is currently an important partner of Vietnam in the region, the third largest trading partner in the European market, and the leading European investor in Vietnam. However, British investment in Vietnam totals only 4 billion USD out of the 400 billion USD foreign investment of Vietnam.

Both agreed to maintain dialogue, exchange of delegations and high-level contacts, in which, the two parliaments need to maximize their roles for the benefit of both countries and peoples.

Chairman Hue expressed his pleasure that the G7 has chosen Vietnam as the first three countries to support the implementation of commitments at COP26.

Lords Speaker McFall praised Vietnam's serious participation in international commitments on environmental protection and emission reduction, reconfirming the UK’s support for Vietnam in these efforts.

Both sides emphasized the need to cooperate more closely in solving global problems, especially to have appropriate behavior in international relations on the basis of respecting international law and taking a global approach, enhancing dialogue and avoiding confrontation.

Both leaders were pleased with the cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the British House of Lords to promote the role of parliament in promoting relations between the Governments and peoples of the two countries.
