Vo Van Thuong, a key Party and State leader, received basic training, grew up from the grassroots, and was assigned to hold many important leadership positions of the Party and State.

However, recently, according to reports from the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission and competent agencies, Thuong violated regulations on what party members cannot do and regulations on the responsibilities of cadres and Party members, first of all, as a member of the Politburo, member of the Secretariat, member of the Party Central Committee and is responsible as the head according to the Party's regulations and the law of the State.

Clearly aware of his responsibility to the Party, State and People, Vo Van Thuong has submitted his resignation.

Pursuant to the current regulations of the Party and State and considering Thuong's wishes, the Party Central Committee consented to let  Vo Van Thuong step down from holding the following positions: Politburo member, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council for the 2021-2026 term.
