It will be the second time the emergency committee has convened over monkeypox, with the last meeting held on June 23. Now monkeypox cases are reported at more than 14,000 in 70 countries.

An increasing number of monkeypox cases has been reported since early May outside West African and Central African countries, where the disease has appeared since the 1970s.

At the meeting on June 23, the majority of committee members advised WHO Director-General Adhanom Ghebreyesus that the monkeypox outbreak did not constitute a global health emergency.
