WHO warns of a dangerous stage of Sars-CoV-2’s Delta variants

(VOVWORLD) - WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the world is in an extremely dangerous stage of the COVID-19 pandemic as the Delta variants have been found in at least 98 countries.

He said Delta is fast becoming the world’s dominant strain of SARS-CoV-2 and still evolving. He said the world needs to closely monitor new mutations of the virus, while emphasizing the importance of early detection, isolation, treatment, and following all preventive measures, including wearing masks and maintaining social distance.

Mr. Ghebreyesus called for efforts to ensure 70% of world population being vaccinated this time next year. He asked countries to help each other with vaccines, medicine, ventilators, and vaccination programs.

According to worldometers,info, as of Sunday morning, the world has recorded more than 184 million COVID-19 cases and nearly 4 million deaths. In the last 24 hours, Asia confirmed more than 140,000 new infections and South America has recorded 2,800 deaths. India and Indonesia are Asia’s hotspots.
