Women’s role in peace building upheld

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam considers promoting gender equality and increasing women’s contributions to peace building important policy priorities both at home and in the international arena, particularly at multilateral forums as the UN and ASEAN.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh made the remark at an international conference on women, peace and security themed “Strengthening women’s role in building and sustaining peace: from commitments to results” that opened in Hanoi on Monday.

Mr. Minh said Vietnam hopes the international community will continue promoting gender equality, and facilitating women’s engagement in ensuring peace and security.

National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said Vietnam’s policy is to promote the role and potential of women in nation building and safeguarding, and promote gender equality politically, and culturally.

The three-day conference is in person in Hanoi and via video conference in the 70 other participating nations.
