Nguyen Van Dung of Nam Dinh province considers doctor Quyet his savior. Dung said doctor Quyet puts himself in the place of the patients and feels their pain: “After some basic tests, the doctors said I had to undergo another operation. But after consultations, they said it was too difficult to carry out the operation. Doctor Quyet decided to proceed and said he would do everything possible for the sake of my health. Doctor Quyet is a resolute man and I think this is an important qualification.”

Quyet has been a general director for 30 years. His life motto is to do his best to help the patients. Quyet finds 24 hours a day is not enough for his tight schedule of diagnoses, treatments, operations, and symposiums. Quyet, one of the best surgeons in Vietnam, has helped turn the Vietnam-Germany Hospital into one of the country’s main general hospitals. Nguyen Quang Nghia is Quyet’s colleague: “I’ve been working with doctor Quyet for 15 years. He is a good doctor of clinical surgery and a good manager. He always cares about the younger generations and other staff members and has made intelligent decisions for the hospital’s development. He has trained many of the hospital’s doctors.”

Quyet has taken a number of measures to reduce overloading at his hospital including categorizing patients, building satellite hospitals, supporting lower-level hospitals, and improving medical services. These measures have proven effective. Each year the Vietnam-Germany Hospital conducts approximately 34,000 operations, two thirds of which are specialist surgeries. It has also conducted liver transplants donated by brain-dead patients. Quyet told VOV: “We are facing many difficulties and pressures as a leading general hospital. We are determined to fulfill all the tasks assigned to us by the Party, State, and the Ministry of Health.”

Quyet said working and caring for people brings him happiness and joy.
