Tapping potentials for water tourism in Can Tho

(VOVworld) – More and more visitors are coming to Can Tho today thanks to new flight routes connecting Can Tho with other major localities across Vietnam. Located in the Mekong River Delta, Can Tho has rich potentials for ecological and waters tourism development. VOV’s Thanh Tung reports….

Phong Dien district’s ecological tourist sites have attracted many visitors to Can Tho City over the recent years thanks to its picturesque rural areas and big orchards. Departing from Ninh Kieu wharf, tourists will take a boat tour to experience exciting business activities at Can Tho ancient markets and Cai Rang float market. Vo Thanh Giup is Director of Phong Dien district’s Trade and Tourism Promotion Center: "This year we focus on two major tasks: improving services quality of tourist hotspots and developing models of community based and environment-friendly tourism. Phong Dien’s two tourist hotspots of My Khanh tourist village and Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery are attracting more and more visitors."

Cai Rang Float Market in Can Tho

With a dense network of rivers, Can Tho has focused on developing boat trips and float market tours around the province. In 2014, Can Tho welcomed more than 1.3 million visitors, earning around 50 million USD from tourism. Le Minh Son, Deputy Director of Can Tho provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said: "We plan to prioritize our special tourism products. With this plan, Cai Rang floating market will be upgraded while other tourist hotspots including boat trips along Hau river, tourist sites, and orchards, will also be further invested in."

Can Tho is planning to add Khmer ethnic people’s music performances at Pothysomrom pagoda, O Mon district, to regular tours, open more tours to explore local ancient houses, fruit festivals in Tan Loc, and restore Bang Lang stork garden and flower village Pho Tho. Le Van Tam, Deputy Chairman of Can Tho municipal People’s Committee, said: "In addition to upgrading existing tourist hotspots, we’ll pay attention to developing new tourist products and tour routes including those to explore Tan An and Chau Van Liem temples and several local historical relics."
