Most of the school supplies on sale at major bookshops in Hanoi are made in Vietnam, which are much sought after by parents. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, chief manager of Tien Phong Bookshop says: “The price of domestic and imported products is stable. The designs of domestic products have been diversified. Consumers are more likely to choose domestic products now than they were a few years ago.”

Big bookshops and supermarkets in Can Tho city are also busily preparing for the new school year. Phuong Nam bookshop is offering a 5 to 50% discount on children’s books and reference books and 5 to 15% on stationery. Nguyen Van Luong of Phuong Nam Bookshop says: “We are offering promotional programs but our quality is guaranteed. This is our effort to lighten the burden of consumers.”
