(VOVWORLD) - In 2020, the Binh Duong provincial People's Committee adopted a pilot model called “Smart Village” in Bach Dang commune. The program, the first of its kind in Vietnam, is part of the local effort to build smart, new-style rural areas.

Bach Dang commune is located on an island in the Dong Nai River. It has fertile soil, green trees all year round, and is famous for its specialty brand of pomelo. Bach Dang is among just a few communes in Binh Duong province that have no manufacturing plants and industrial wastewater.

The commune is expected to become good place to live with a clean environment and agriculture development combined with eco-tourism and a green symbol of Binh Duong province.

Local people share their excitement about the future development of the locality, affirming that they are determined to work with the local administrations to secure safe water and ensure the livelihood.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Mai Hung Dung says the ultimate goal of the model is to improve the lives of the islanders.

Tan Uyen town has focused investment resources on helping Bach Dang commune improve its agricultural products, combine tourism and agricultural production, and upgrade the infrastructure for agricultural tourism.

The commune has strengthened the application of IT in production and environmental management, installed energy-saving lighting systems and CCTVs, and planted trees on both sides of the roads. Free high-speed wifi hotspots have been installed in residential and community areas.

Doan Hong Tuoi, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tan Uyen town, said, “To develop smart villages, we’ve replaced all lights in communes with LED lights. We have installed CCTVs on main roads and at important intersections and upgraded and expanded the roads.”

Binh Duong’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has coordinated with functional agencies to increase investment in agriculture production and rural development in Bach Dang commune.

Advanced technology has been applied to fruit plantation and processing while applications on product origin tracing and quality management have been deployed.

Pham Van Bong, Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the Department has provided farmers with information and assistance to develop digital cooperatives and establish digital economic services.

“We’ve focused on the development of fruit trees, industrial crops, organic agriculture, and eco-agriculture and connect it with the OCOP program. The model is part of new-style rural building and helps local farmers and cooperatives establish brands and improve product quality,” said Bong.

Vo Thi Bao Xuyen, Chairwoman of the Bach Dang communal People’s Committee, told VOV, “We’ve increased communications on policies to help people apply high technology. Communications are also focused on the benefits of the application of high-technology in agriculture production. All these are part of the effort toward building smart villages.”

Along with the “Smart Village”, Binh Duong province is accelerating digital transformation in order to create momentum for further development.
