The center ran a 5-year trial before going into full operation last January, with support from the Association for Better Living and Education (ABLE) Asia Pacific and the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/ Dioxin. According to the treatment process, the patients take natural multi-vitamins extracted from medicinal plants. After 30 minutes of physical exercise, they then take a steam bath for 5 hours to sweat and release the defoliants. During the process, the patients eat and drink a lot of fruit and water to avoid dehydration. The treatment lasts from 2 to 3 weeks depending on each individual’s recovery period and is to be repeated once a year.

Major General Tran Xuan Thu, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/ Dioxin elaborates: “The patients treated in this way have recorded good results. People from other provinces also come here and this model will be replicated in other places. Australia has also shown us their methods of treating AO victims so we are trying to combine eastern and western methods to find the most effective.”
