Flu Laboratory female scientists win Kovalevskaia Award 2019

(VOVWORLD) -Female scientists of the Flu Laboratory,  Virology Department, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, have won the Kovalevskaia Award 2019 for their study of seasonal influenza.

The award committee said the women scientists succeeded in systematizing Vietnam’s research achievements and developing scientific theory from virus to seasonal flu vaccine and flu pandemic vaccine.

Kovalevskaia Award 2019 for individuals has been given to Assoc. Prof. and Dr. Tran Thi Thu Ha, Director of the Institute of Forestry Research and Development, Thai Nguyen University. Her studies focus on selecting seeds and seedlings, cultivating trees for timber and herbs, application of molecular biology and molecular bio-chemistry in cross-breeding to protect and develop indigenous precious herbal plants.

The award presentation ceremony will take place on Vietnam Science and Technology Day, May 18, in Hanoi.

The Kovalevskaya Award, named after Russian female mathematician Sofia Kovalevskaya, is presented annually to honor female scientists with remarkable achievements in scientific research and application.
