International aid mobilized for new rural development in Vietnam

(VOVworld) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has held a meeting in Hanoi to call for further international support for its new rural development program. Speaking at the forum jointly held by the International Support Group on Tuesday, Minister Cao Duc Phat said that Vietnam treasures international experience in rural development and dialogues with partners to tackle the challenges. Vietnam has defined 6 priorities for international support, including income generating production for farmers, environmental and resource protection, climate change, poverty reduction and public private partnership. Director of the French Development Agency in Hanoi, Jean Marc Gravellini, said that his organization has supported Vietnam in its modernization of production facilities to raise productivity and boost vocational training. The Chief Representative of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Henning Pedersen, called for more local market based approaches for the private sector to have more involvement in the supply chain.
