(VOVword) - A diverse range of celebrations are being held nationwide to mark the Mid-Autumn Festival. The municipal Youth Union of the central city of Danang presented 400 gifts, worth VND200,000 each, to poor children residing in the city. More than 1,000 poor and disabled children also celebrated the city’s full moon festival on Saturday. On the same day, leaders from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs visited children with disabilities in Quang Ngai province’s island district of Ly Son, presenting 600 gifts to children and soldiers. Tran Thi Thanh Thanh is Chairwoman of the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Children’s Rights: “The festival is an attractive playground for local children despite their difficult living conditions. It connects the people and children in Vietnam’s mainland with those in the islands”.

In Hanoi, nearly 1,000 children, many of whom are disabled or orphaned, have been offered the chance to savour  traditional culture through folk games, Mid-Autumn toys, and folk music on the weekekend. The children can participate in a star-shaped lantern procession around the Sword-Returned (Hoan Kiem) Lake and sample an art performance and Unicorn dance show at the Hanoi Children’s Palace. Children with outstanding academic achievements, disadvantaged children, and the children of martyrs and invalid soldiers are also presented gifts. At a “Full Moon Festival” on the evening of September 29, children in the northern province of Ninh Binh enjoyed a Unicorn dance and songs praising the late President Ho Chi Minh, their family, teachers, and friendship. The Ninh Binh provincial Department of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs also raised as much as VND40 million to help disadvantaged children.
