Public support grows for campaign to promote Vietnamese goods

(VOVworld)- A four-year-old consumer campaign called “Vietnamese give priority to use Vietnam goods” initiated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade has already received wide public support. 71% of consumers are in favor of high-quality Vietnamese goods, which now occupy about 80-90 percent of goods sold in supermarket chains and stores that sell at stabilized prices.

Total flow of retail and services in 2013 was 12.6% higher than the previous year and the trade deficit dropped. At the working session with the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on Wednesday in Hanoi, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Nguyen Thien Nhan and head of the Steering Board of the campaign said that the ministry needs to build a code of quantitative norm to evaluate the result of the campaign. Nhan said: With a set norm, we will have standards for each product. We should work with enterprises in setting some norms and eventually seeking particular solutions. I think it is now time for enterprises to join hands with the government in this campaign because each enterprise also benefits when their products are promoted in the campaign. The government will only support products of some weak enterprises while strong enterprises can stand on their own.”
