The goals were revealed at a conference on Thursday reviewing the sector’s performance this year and setting tasks for next year.

Tran Dinh Luan, Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries, said that the European Commission’s yellow card warnings for seafood exploitation and countries’ import demand showing no signs of recovery are challenges for the sector.

“We must continue to organize production chains, promote traceability in exploitation, combat illegal fishing, ensure exploitation to match with resource reserves, and food safety on fishing vessels to the ports and factory. In addition to cutting emissions and increasing greenness, animal welfare is also an issue for the aquaculture sector. This is not only a demand of the domestic market but also a global consumption trend,” said Luan.

Participants proposed solutions for fishery management and exploitation, including to soon complete the electronic diary software for traceability of seafood origins, and oversee the implementation of regulations on local exploitation management.
