Upholding the role of prestigious people among ethnic groups

(VOVworld)Vietnam’s Party, Government and Fatherland Front have defined upholding the role of prestigious people as crucial in socio-economic development, building grassroots political system and strengthening the national unity. A meeting to review the 5-year implementation of the Prime Minister’s Instruction on upholding the role of prestigious people among ethnic groups during national construction and defense took place in Hanoi on Saturday. Organizers are the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Ministry of Public Security and the government’s Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs.  Chairman of the Committee Giang Seo Phu said:“The customary law system filled with ethnic identities dominates local communities and their activities in areas inhabited by ethnic groups, and in rural, remote and especially-disadvantaged areas. Prestigious people are pioneers and role models, who encourage their offspring and communities to help preserve their cultural values”.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged for clearer recognition of the role of prestigious people while continuing to implement policies to replicate their role models and create favorable conditions for them to contribute more to safeguarding security and social order.

The same day, a meeting was held to exchange experiences in national defense from prestigious people in the Central Highlands region. Delegates told their own stories about how to involve the people in safeguarding security, to persuade the people to adhere to the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and to resolve issues related to activities of the reactionary groups, land disputes, mass complaints, protests, riots and illegal border-crossing.
