At the Informal Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on "Existential Threats of Sea-level Rise Amidst the Climate Crisis" in New York on Friday, Giang underscored the need to consider the issue and call for all efforts and measures to address the impact of this phenomenon based on international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Giang said countries must responsibly implement their commitments and increase climate action and finance, including the commitments made at the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP) and the Climate Ambition Summit in September. He said Vietnam calls for accelerating the establishment of a loss and damage fund agreed by countries at the COP27.

Ambassador Giang said as one of the countries with a long coastline, most heavily affected by climate change, sea level rise and saltwater intrusion, Vietnam understands well the impact of these phenomena on security and development.

Therefore, Vietnam is making great efforts to strengthen climate action to realize its commitments, including establishing a Just Energy Transition Partnership and developing a Resource Mobilization Plan.

In addition, Vietnam is also ready to cooperate and share experiences, practices, and lessons with other countries and partners to promote common efforts to respond to climate change and rising sea levels.
