Vietnam hails UN’s peacekeeping effort

(VOVworld) – Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, head of the Permanent Vietnamese mission to the United Nations said the UN’s peacekeeping activities play an important role in maintaining peace and security in the world,  and creating a stable environment for development.

Speaking at a discussion to review peacekeeping activities in the framework of the 71st session of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee of the 71st UN General Assembly, Ms. Nga said in the complicated global context, the UN needs to highlight the principles of respecting State sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in other country’s internal affairs, not using force except for self-defense, and defending the mission.

Ambassador Nga called on the UN Security Council to consult with the  United Nations Secretariat and the Peace building Commission and countries which send officials while making policy related to peacekeeping mission. Ms. Nga confirmed Vietnam’s active contribution to and responsibility in taking part in peacekeeping activities to maintain peace and security in the world.
