Vietnam marks World Environment Day, World Oceans Day

(VOVWORLD) - World Environment Day and World Oceans Day are being observed in many localities in Vietnam.

The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Associations and the Indian Consulate General co-organized a walk for the environment at the Sai Gon Zoo and Botanical Garden. Themed “Air pollution”, the program has appealed to all people to adopt a healthy lifestyle to minimize air pollution, which is a cause to global warming. It also commemorated the 150th birthday of Indian leader Mahatma Ghandi, who was dedicated to a sustainable environment and responsible action for humankind.

Thousands of people joined the Waste Cleaning and Recycling Festival in Ha Long City on Wednesday. The event encouraged the recycling, reuse, and saving of plastic waste through different media such as exhibitions, painting on environmental protection, and promoting recycled products.

Pham Van Cuong, Vice Director of Quang Ninh province’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said: “Quang Ninh has piloted a new waste management program. Waste in Ha Long city will be organized, collected and treated thoroughly. We’ll also collect floating waste on Ha Long Bay and from cruise ships. The environment in Ha Long and Quang Ninh province will be protected for sustainable development.”

The “Let’s clean the sea” campaign 2019 will take place nationwide until August 31 to raise people’s awareness about the important role of the sea in their daily lives. The campaign was announced at a press briefing in Hanoi on Tuesday. The campaign is being organized by the Vietnam Youth Federation in coordination with the National Volunteer Center. With the theme “Kindness to the ocean”, the campaign calls on everyone to join hands in activities to protect the marine environment. A launch ceremony for the campaign will be held at Sa Ky port in Quang Ngai province this Saturday.
