Speaking at the launch in Hanoi on Saturday, Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thi Xuyen said tobacco is one of the main causes of preventable diseases and fatalities in the world. The Health Ministry urges organizations and individuals to comply with the no-smoking regulation at public places according to the Law on the Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms. The Health sector has encouraged people to together build a healthy living environment without tobacco smoke in the interest of individual, family, and society.
Deputy Health Minister Xuyen says: "It’s necessary to have inter-sectoral collaboration to monitor, supervise, and handle violations of tobacco advertising. This is a priority in preventing and controlling tobacco harms in Vietnam to effectively reduce the rates of smokers, smoking-related diseases, and fatalities."According to WHO, Vietnam has high risks of tobacco-related diseases and fatalities with 40,000 deaths annually.
