(VOVworld) – Vietnam’s government has exerted efforts to promote gender equality and empower women through policies and national programs on gender equality. At Friday's seminar on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women in Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Minh Huan said the gender gap in primary education has been eliminated. However, he said, there are still many challenges facing Vietnam in the implementation of gender equality such as difference in salary and women’ role in leadership positions. Huan talked about the significance of the seminar: "This is a good opportunity for Vietnam to share information on the implementation of the Convention and recommendations by experts on how it will be better implemented in Vietnam. This will help remove all forms of discrimination against women and girls".
