UNESCO Global Geoparks have a clear geographical boundary and contain geological features of scientific, educational, and aesthetic value, as well as biological, archeological, historical, cultural, and/or sociological heritages that deserve to be preserved and promoted.

Established in 2015, Dak Nong Geopark has some 65 heritage sites that include craters, waterfalls, and a system of 50 caves created by volcanoes with a combined length of 10,000m. According to UNESCO, Dak Nong Geopark is distinctive in geological features and geoheritage value.

Dak Nong Geopark is the third UNESCO-recognised Global Geopark in Vietnam after Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark in Ha Giang province and Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark in Cao Bang province, both in northern Vietnam.
