Con Dao district holds session on protecting national seas, islands

(VOVWORLD) - More than 200 officers and youth union members learned about the national sea and islands and the Vietnam Coast Guard Law at a session on Wednesday in Con Dao island district.

Participants were briefed on the role and potential of the sea and islands in national construction and defense, ways to determine internal waters, baselines, territorial sea, contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone and continental shelf in Vietnam's waters according to the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The current situation of Vietnam's seas and islands, Vietnam’s Law of the Sea, Party and State's viewpoints, policies in dealing with encounters at sea and prevention of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing were also discussed at the event.
