Amnesty- Vietnam’s lenient policy

(VOVworld)- On Monday, Thanh Xuan prison in Hanoi announced the President’s decision to grant amnesty for prisoners. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President of the Central Advisory Council on Amnesty 2015 attended the event.

In response to the State President’s decision, 299 prisoners in Thanh Xuan prison will be released ahead of their scheduled release date, 12 of them foreigners. Deputy Prime Minister Phuc said that the amnesty reflects Vietnam’s lenient policy and aims to help guilty people reintegrate into the community. Phuc said he hoped the pardoned prisoners would become good citizens: “Party Committees, local authorities and the police need to help pardoned prisoners reintegrate into the community. It’s important to create favorable conditions for them to find jobs and stabilize their lives”.

On the same day, the Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, a Standing Member of the Central Advisory Council on Amnesty and representatives of the Supreme People’s Procuracy and relevant agencies in Thai Nguyen province attended a ceremony to announce the President’s amnesty decision.
