Government meeting for August discusses restructuring state-owned enterprises

(VOVworld) – The government monthly meeting for August convened in Hanoi on Wednesday. Delegates will discuss socio-economic development in August and over the last 8 months as well as measures to achieve this year’s economic growth target of 5.8%. The Ministry of Planning and Investment reported high growth in most sectors, particularly agriculture, industry and services. Inflation has been contained and GDP in the first 9 months of the year is expected to reach 5.54%.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung called for efforts to achieve the set targets in order to create a momentum for the coming years. He said that focus should be centered on increasing economic demand and boosting capital disbursement and production. He said that greater attention should be paid to restructuring the economy, public investment, state-owned enterprises, commercial banks, and agriculture: “Restructuring state-owned enterprises is not equitization. Each minister should conduct fact-finding visits to each company. State-owned enterprises must not endure low efficiency and losses.”

He also asked ministries and sectors to cut unnecessary administrative procedures. Cabinet members also commented on the government’s plan to issue international bonds, incentives for special scientific projects, and greater autonomy for public educational centers.
