Ngoc Hoi Dong Da festival opens in Hanoi

(VOVworld)- The Dong Da festival commemorating the triumphant victory of King Quang Trung over 290,000 Qing invaders 227 years ago opens in Hanoi on Friday.

It is observed annually on the 5th day of the 1st lunar month at Dong Da Hill in Hanoi. Making a pilgrimage to the Dong Da Festival, one of the most typical spring festivals in Hanoi has become a time-honored custom of the Vietnamese people. Nguyen Song Hao is Chairman of Dong Da district’s People’s Committee: “On the fifth day of the lunar January, Vietnamese people celebrate the Dong Da festival in which we revive the fight of the Tay Son troops. The festival inspires patriotism among the younger generation. It is part of our efforts to preserve Vietnamese culture and tradition”.

The festival consists of solemn rituals, art performances, and folk games to revive the triumphant atmosphere of the ancient battle.
