In the Thursday meeting, the council adopted the Resolution 2309 on threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts. They called on countries to work with the UN’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to ensure that its international security standards are reviewed and adapted to effectively address the threat posed by terrorists.

The 15-member body also called on all States to strengthen and promote the effective application of ICAO standards, and to assist ICAO in audit enhancement, capacity development and training programs to support their implementation.

The Resolution said countries should ensure that measures to prevent terrorism are in place at airports and that these measures take into account the role of those with privileged access to areas, knowledge or information that may assist terrorists in planning or conducting attacks; and urgently address any gaps or vulnerabilities that may be highlighted in self-risk assessment or audit processes.
