On Tuesday morning, gunmen stormed the school where about 500 students and teachers were inside. The attack killed 132 and injured 122 more, most of whom were students. Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif traveled to Peshawar immediately after the incident to direct the rescue operation and declared a 3-day mourning.

The attack triggered anger throughout the world community. Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain strongly condemned the attack which, he said, will not have any influence on Islamabad’s stance against terrorists. US President Barack Obama said that by targeting students and teachers in this heinous attack, terrorists have once again shown their depravity. Indian Prime Minister Nerendra Modi called the attack dastardly terror. Philippines’ President Benigno Aquino III voiced his condemnation of the killing of innocent schoolchildren in Peshawar, saying “there can be no justification for this tragedy, which has dishonored Islam.”
