Criticism and self-criticism has always been a regular activity of the CPV. But the 2012 campaign in the spirit of the 4^th resolution of the Party Central Committee on urgent issues of Party building was of great importance for the Party’s purification and strength. Nguyen Duc Ha, Head of the Department of Party Cells of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Organization, says: "The criticism and self-criticism drive has been conducted throughout the Party from the top level, organizations to individuals. Opinions about the organization are collected before each individual examines themselves. Self-criticism aims to promote one’s advantages, repair one’s weaknesses, and avoid making mistakes."

The critical period of self-criticism and criticism was from August to December last year, beginning with the Politburo, the Secretariat, the provincial Party Committees, leaders of organizations, cadres, and Party members. Issues under review closely adhered to the spirit of the 4^th resolution of the Party Central Committee. Concerns of the cadres and Party members were analyzed and lessons were drawn. Last year’s criticism and self-criticism movement achieved positive results. Vu Van Phuc, Editor in Chief of the Communist Review, says: "The result was the model example of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and its members. It was the foundation for all cadres, Party members, and Party cells to strictly review themselves. It blew a fresh wind into the thinking and feeling of cadres and Party members."

In addition to criticism and self-criticism activities, Party building work last year focused on the sense of pioneering and modeling of the leaders. The Party’s personnel and organization were reformed. Political and ideological education for cadres and Party members was implemented at all levels. The political drive has had a significant influence on Party building and prevented deterioration in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle on the part of cadres and party members. "All party members, from the top leader of the Party to each member, must review their strengths and weaknesses. The organization comments on each cadre and Party member, who must to identify their own strong and weak points, and ways to improve. The people can closely monitor how the Party cells and members improve themselves and whether they make positive changes in becoming closer to the people, listening to the people’s wishes, resolving issues, and minimizing negative behaviors in their work and life. The Party Central Committee’s 4^th resolution has had a positive effect." Phuc says.

Criticism and self-criticism in the spirit of the 4^th resolution of the Party Central Committee was a key political drive in Party building, aiming to improve the Party’s leadership. Criticism and self-criticism will be carried out regularly in association with the professional work of cadres and party members, contributing to consolidating the CPV’s power in the context of Vietnam’s development and international integration.
