Enhancing Vietnam-Laos education cooperation

(VOVworld) – Education and training cooperation between Vietnam and Laos has achieved practical results, contributing to the Vietnam-Laos special relationship.

The Party and state of Vietnam and Laos have identified education and training as strategic cooperation in the two countries’ friendly relationship and long-lasting cohesion.

In recent years, Vietnam has invested a significant sum in education and training in Laos. Ten of thousands of Laotian students and officials have enrolled in schools Vietnam. Vietnam also sends students to Laos’ National University under different cooperative forms including self-funded.

Acting Rector of the Lao National University, Somchith Souksavath, said: “The Lao National University has signed MoUs with 26 institutes and colleges in Vietnam. The Vietnamese government has helped build dormitories and other facilities and operate a Vietnamese faculty. Vietnam sponsors 100 teachers pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees in Vietnam and sends experts to the Vietnamese faculty and the school of ethnic people at Lao National University. We have cooperated with Vietnam’s universities in science and culture studies.”

Visiting the Lao National University on Friday, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong said the two countries will continue to enhance education cooperation in the future. “Generations of Vietnamese officials have graduated from Lao schools. It’s a vivid illustration of effective cooperation between the two countries. I hope that education cooperation will gain more results in the future.”

Education is one of 6 key cooperative fields in the Vietnam-Laos cooperation strategy with a vision to 2020.
