(VOVWORLD) -  This week, VOVWorld’s English section continued to receive greetings on Vietnam’s National Day and VOV’s 78th founding anniversary from listeners around the world.

A: Amir Jameel of Pakistan wrote: “Vietnam is celebrating its 78th National Day observed on September 2nd, commemorating President Ho Chi Minh reading the Declaration of Vietnam’s Independence from French Colonization at Ba Dình Square in Hanoi on September 2nd, 1945. Over the past 78 years, Vietnam has made tremendous progress in every field of life and all the credit goes to the Vietnamese government and its very hard-working people. The Voice of Vietnam is celebrating its 78th founding anniversary on September 7th.”

B: He continued: “We congratulate and send great wishes to the hardworking, professional staff and management of VOV. They are working so hard for the promotion of Voice of Vietnam in the world and due to their great efforts, the Voice of Vietnam is one of best and leading radio stations in the world, with its informative, cultural, educational, and impressive daily programs. On this happy occasion, I congratulate its staff.”

B: Rabi Sankar Bosu of India, who visited Vietnam after winning our contest “What do you know about Vietnam” in 2020, continues to send us regular feedback on our broadcasts and website. In his latest correspondence he wrote: “On the occasion of VOV's 78th  anniversary, September 7, I would like to extend my warmest wishes and congratulations to the officials, broadcasters, presenters, reporters, engineers, and others (past and present) who are working for the Voice of Vietnam World Service. Happy 78th birth anniversary to VOV5!”

A: In their greetings on the 78th founding anniversary of VOV, Chinese listeners hoped that VOV will continue to grow and serve as a bridge connecting Vietnamese and Chinese people.

B: Somsi of Laos reacted to the long queue of visitors at President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum on Vietnam National Day by saying: “I have read many books about President Ho Chi Minh, a great leader and a beloved father. He is a shining example for us to follow.”

A:  Juan Diez of Spain wrote: “With thorough preparation, advanced technology, and digital platforms to improve its services, VOV is attracting a wider audience. More important is VOV’s truthfulness, responsibility, and seriousness in delivering news about Vietnam and the world. VOV deserves an award for being a reliable source of news.”

B: Once again, thank you all for your greetings. We hope to continue to receive your support for VOV.

A: This week VOVWorld  received more than 600 letters, emails, and phone calls from listeners in 34 countries and territories, the most correspondence we’ve ever received in a week.

B: That figure doesn’t include interactions on our Facebook fanpage. We’re so happy to know we’re becoming more popular around the world.

A: Next, we’d like to briefly introduce a film called “Dreamy Eyes” which was recently screened at the ASEAN Plus 3 Film Festival in Prague.

B: Mắt Biếc (Dreamy Eyes) by director Victor Vu won the top award, the Golden Lotus, in the Feature Film category at the 22nd Vietnam Film Festival in 2021. The film was adapted from the novel of the same name by Nguyen Nhat Anh and was nominated for an Oscar in the Foreign Film category.

A: Released in 2019, Mắt Biếc led the Vietnamese box office for 18 consecutive days, equaling the record of the global blockbuster Avengers: End Game when it was screened in Việt Nam. The film earned more than 7.6 million USD, making it the second-most-popular Vietnamese film of all time.

B: Songs from the film won the film the Best Soundtrack Award for a feature film.

A: Mắt Biếc also received the Award for Beautiful Scenes in Huế from the Thua Thien-Hue provincial People's Committee. A lot of the movie was filmed in Hà Cảng village, Quảng Điền district, Thừa Thiên-Huế province. After the film was released, many filming locations in Huế, such as Bạch Đằng street, Hưng Đạo Theatre, Vọng Cảnh hill, the Huế University of Education, and King Khải Định's mausoleum, became tourist attractions.

B: The romantic drama follows Ngan and Ha Lan, two childhood friends from the village of Do Do, through their childhood, adolescence and adulthood.

B: Dreamy Eyes tells the story of Ngan, who falls in love with Hà Lan when they are both 6 years old. As they grow older, Ngan’s love for Hà Lan blossoms, until she eventually moves to the big city to go to high school.

A: Hà Lan takes to the big city a little too much, falling for Ngan’s rich cousin, only for him to break her heart and leave her pregnant. Throughout all of this, Ngan’s love for Hà Lan doesn’t waver. He takes care of her during her pregnancy, and eventually takes her daughter Trà Long back to the village to live with Hà Lan’s mother. Ngan begins teaching in the village school.

B: As the years go by, Ngan continues to be a friend to both Hà Lan, who stayed in the city to work as a seamstress, and her daughter Trà Long. Trà Long, now 18, falls for Ngan, who is now in his late 30s. In a close call, Ngan rebuffs her advances towards him. In a cruel twist of fate, Hà Lan finally realizes the error of her ways, only for her to miss her chance to tell Ngan how she feels about him. He gets on a train and leaves the village forever.

A: That’s just the briefest outline of the film. If you’ve never seen a Vietnamese movie, let Dreamy Eyes be your first.
