The declaration highlighted new directions for promoting infrastructure, institutional and people to people connectivity towards sustainable growth with equity. Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh: “Strengthening cooperation to promote sustainable development with equity has been a priority at this year’s APEC meeting. This is the first time APEC leaders endorsed an APEC Food Security Road Map Towards 2020, an APEC Initiative on Mainstreaming Ocean-related Issues while boosting cooperation in tackling food, water and energy challenges. This will help member economies in their efforts to restructure the growth model   to cope with global challenges”.
