Coast Guard officer set to depart for UN peacekeeping mission

(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam Coast Guard Command held a ceremony on Monday in Hanoi to assign tasks to Lieutenant Pham Vu Huy Hiep, who has been selected to undertake UN peacekeeping duties at the UN Mission in South Sudan.

Deputy Commander Vu Trung Kien congratulated Lieutenant Hiep for being the third coast guard officer to join the UN peacekeeping force, saying that it is both an honor and a noble responsibility for an officer of the Vietnam People’s Army to fulfill duties for the international community.

Before taking this duty, Lieutenant Hiep completed various training courses on UN peacekeeping missions in Vietnam and abroad. Upon deployment to the UN Mission in South Sudan, Lieutenant Hiep will serve as a staff officer.
