The incident resulted in no reported injuries to crew members or damage to the ship.

UKMTO said it could have been an attack but did not give any details. Meanwhile, some Arab sources confirmed that the explosion was the result of a missile attack carried out by Houthi forces in Yemen.

On Wednesday, Houthis fired an anti-ship ballistic missile from the area the group controls in Yemen into the Gulf of Aden. The attack did not cause any harm to people or vessels.
