Deputy PM urges for more investment in Mekong delta’s rice production

(VOVworld) - Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh stresses that central tasks of the Mekong delta provinces are to join efforts with the central government to control inflation, stabilize the macro-economy and ensure social welfare. Deputy PM Ninh made the statement at Friday's conference of the Southwestern Region Steering Committee to review last year’s performance and work out this year’s tasks. Mr. Ninh said the region should continue to successfully implement resolutions of the 11th National Party Congress and of local party committees. He said provinces need to invest more in transportation, irrigation and models of rice field. Mr. Ninh urged ministries and provinces to improve regional planning, and help remove obstacles for enterprises and farmers to develop production and exports. The Deputy PM said the government will provide enterprises with credits, enabling them to buy 1 million tons of rice from farmers in the next 3 months. Mr. Ninh added the government considers allocating budget for rice cultivation the Mekong  delta region and adopt incentives to attract foreign investment in local infrastructure development.
