Girls’ rights promoted at Hanoi forum

(VOVWORLD) - One hundred girls from all localities in the country gathered in Hanoi on Sunday for a dialogue with leaders of the National Assembly, Government and State agencies on the two major topics of "Safety for Girls in the Cities" and "Ending Child Marriage."

Leaders answered questions raised by the girls, which are related to child harassment in public places, child molestation, violence against children, child marriage, and child abduction and trafficking in remote areas. Ngo Thi Minh, Deputy Head of National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children, said: "The 2016 Law on Children assigns specific tasks to ministries, agencies and organizations at all levels in protecting children from being abused, in which the Vietnam Association for Protection of Children's Rights plays a key role. The government has established the National Committee for Children and the National Hotline for child protection – 111, a special public service that receives information, notifications and denunciations related to child abuse and violence."

The committee chaired a meeting to review opinions raised at the forum and work on plans to promote girls’ rights .
