Israeli defense minister says “short time” for diplomatic deal with Lebanon

(VOVWORLD) - Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned Thursday that the time for a diplomatic solution with Hezbollah is running out.

At a meeting with Amos Hochstein, a senior adviser to US President Joe Biden, in Tel Aviv, Gallant said Israel's current top priority is bringing home 80,000 people who are being evacuated from the area near the border with Lebanon, adding that Israel will not tolerate any threats to its citizens.

Since the conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7, gunfire has been frequent in the border area between Israel and Lebanon.

According to a statement by the Israel Defense Forces on Thursday, Israeli warplanes have conducted air strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon over the past few days, including observation posts and air defense stations.

Hezbollah on Thursday withdrew its forces 2 to 3 kilometers from the border, a sign that it wants to avoid a full-scale conflict with Israel.
