(VOVworld) - Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and Prime Minister Enrico Letta on Sunday held a meeting to find a way out of the new Italian political crisis after The People of Freedom (PDL) party of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi withdrew 5 ministers from the coalition government.

President Napolitano said that statements by PDL have created political instability, so Prime Minister Letta will have to explain to Parliament his personal opinions on this issue. Analysts said Letta might find a way to establish a new government with the support of defectors from PDL and other leftwing groups. However, a new leftwing party may not have an opportunity to develop. President Napolitano said he will only dissolve Parliament and call for a new general election as a last resort.
