Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, war veterans, Vietnam Heroic Mothers, and revolutionary contributors attended the event.

The participants observed a minute’s silence to remember the great contribution by President Ho Chi Minh, war martyrs, and people who sacrificed their lives during the struggles for national liberation and reunification.

In his address at the event, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his deep gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh and all who laid down their lives for the homeland and people. Mr. Trong said over thousands years of building and defending the nation, Vietnamese people have been determined and faithful to the struggle to expel foreign invaders and protect the territorial integrity of Vietnam. Mr. Trong added that millions of people devoted their youth and sacrificed their lives for the nation: “Those invalids and war martyrs created the glorious history of Vietnam. Their immortal spirit and bright example will live forever. The Party, State, and people will always remember their great contribution and will continue the revolutionary tradition of the predecessors”.

Party leader Trong stressed that improving the spiritual and material lives of revolutionary contributors is the consistent policy of the Party and the State. Over the past 70 years, especially during the 30 years of the renewal process, the Party and State have taken care of war invalids and families of fallen soldiers and other people who have rendered service to the nation.

So far, more than 9 million revolutionary contributors have benefited from preferential policies. Mr. Trong urged continued work to pay the nation’s debt of gratitude: “In the coming time, authorities at all levels need to communicate the Party’s policies and the latest Directive of the Party Secretariat on preferential policies for revolutionary contributors, which assure social equality and enhance national solidarity and public trust in the Party. Movements of paying gratitude should become regular activities in society”.

On Thursday morning, a delegation of Party, State, Government, National Assembly and Vietnam Fatherland Front leaders laid wreaths at the Monument for Heroic Martyrs and paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum in Hanoi.
