Speaking at a press conference in Hanoi on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi said that the former vessel and crew members detained by China on May 16 returned home safely on Wednesday. He responded to question on Vietnam’s reaction to Chinese capturing of Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen:“The Vietnamese Foreign Ministry representative has met and handled a diplomatic note the Chinese Embassy’s representative in Hanoi. It makes clear that China’s blocking and capturing Vietnamese fishing vessels and crew members operating legally in waters of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago is a gross violation of Vietnam’s national sovereignty and judicial rights. Vietnam resolutely objects and demands China to quickly return the fishing vessel and asset detained on May 16 and to end all similar acts.”

Regarding the Vietnam – EU Comprehensive Partnership Agreement, Nghi said the EU is one of Vietnam’s most important partners. The pact was initialed in 2010 and is expected to be endorsed shortly.
