At a meeting of the Vietnam Cooperatives Alliance in Hanoi on Thursday, Nhan spoke highly of the alliance’s role and contributions to national socio-economic development and stability.

Nhan said the Party and government have promulgated policies to restructure the agricultural sector and renovate the operation of cooperatives.

During the process of agricultural restructuring towards large scale production using qualified breeds for high productivity and modern cultivation in combination with processing, consumption, and exports, cooperatives play a key role in the restructuring.

Nhan asked the alliance to disseminate policies on cooperatives, complete the model of new-style cooperatives, and coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development, the State Bank of Vietnam, the Finance Ministry, and localities in duplicating the model so that by next year there will be at least one new-style cooperative in each district.

Currently, there are 18,200 cooperatives with 7.4 million members nationwide.
