South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency cited the South’s military as saying that the launch was from Tongchon county in North Korea’s Kangwon province. The missiles flew an estimated 230km at a maximum altitude of 24km and reached top speeds of Mach 5.

Japan’s Kyodo News agency quoted the Japanese government and South Korean military as saying that the missiles landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

The US Indo-Pacific Command said in a brief statement that the US is committed to defending South Korea and Japan.

This is the 28th missile launch by North Korea since the beginning of this year. It happened as the US and South Korea are almost ending the 2-week Hoguk 22 field exercises and announced their annual combined air drills named “Vigilant Storm” next week.
