Party leader holds phone conversation with Chinese Party leader, President

(VOVworld) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation on Wednesday marking the occasion of both countries’ upcoming lunar new year festivals and the 65th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties. Mr. Trong wished the Chinese people a happy and prosperous lunar new year. He said that over the last 65 years, Vietnamese-Chinese comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has continued to be promoted, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world. He said that the two countries needed to increase mutual trust and understanding, strengthen friendship, and boost mutually beneficial cooperation. Mr. Trong said both countries should maintain peace, stability and negotiations to settle East Sea issues on the basis of signed agreements and international law.

The Chinese Party General Secretary and President congratulated Vietnam’s achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam over the last 85 years. He wished the Vietnamese people a happy lunar new year, successful implementation of the targets set by the 11th National Party Congress, and successful organization of the 12th National Party Congress. He said he hoped that China and Vietnam would increase mutual trust and solidarity, deepen cooperation in all areas, settle differences, and promote bilateral ties with the motto  "Neighborly friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability and future-oriented thinking” and in the spirit of “good neighbors, good friends, good comrades, and good partners”.  

The two Party leaders discussed ways to boost friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the coming years, particularly in visit exchanges and the implementation of cooperative agreements. They also exchanged invitations to visit each other’s country at the appropriate time.
