(VOVworld) – Various activities are underway in Hoi An city to mark the 5th Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2013, including a farmtrip called “Discovery Cam Thanh village” by bicycle which will include art performances.
An international seminar opened in Hoi An City on Sunday to review 10 years of implementing the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage to draw lessons and work out plans for the future. The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO. Vietnamese and foreign managers and researchers, focused on the important role of the UNESCO Convention to member states. Ho Anh Tuan is Deputy Minister of the Culture, Sports and Tourism: “Over the past 10 years, we have come to clearly realize the impact of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage on human life. The convention has contributed to protecting our heritage, raising public awareness of the importance of this heritage and expanding international cooperation and support.”
Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director General, said that the organization was willing to share with Vietnam its experiences and help with measures to further realize the process of cultural heritage protection.
The same day, an inauguration of two community-based tourism villages of Bho Hoong and Dho Rong was held in P’rao town, Dong Giang district. The activity was to honor the cultural values of Quang Nam province, especially the unique cultural characteristics of the Co Tu people. Dinh Hai is Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism: “We want to introduce tourists, especially foreign tourists, and young people to Vietnam’s legendary Ho Chi Minh road. We hope the road, along with the development of the two community-based tourism villages in the future, will contribute to the community tourism and poverty reduction.”
The 5th Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2013 will end on Wednesday.
