(VOVworld) - Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said Thursday that Russia is ready to implement a 48-hour ceasefire in the Syrian city of Aleppo starting next week.

The statement was made after the UN called to extend humanitarian ceasefires to allow for aid deliveries.

The same day, Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, called for an immediate halt to the fighting in Aleppo so that medical and humanitarian aid can reach millions of civilians.
