Russian MP calls for annulment of friendship treaty with Ukraine

(VOVworld) – A group of the Russian Communist Party MPs led by parliamentarian Sergei Obukhov on Monday sent a letter to President Vladimir Putin proposing to annul the Moscow Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation, and Partnership signed with Ukraine following failed terror plot in Crimea.

The letter says the acts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine require the Federation of Russia to take retaliatory measures and one of the solutions is to terminate the treaty between Russia and Ukraine.

The call is made when the relations between Russia and Ukraine have become specifically tense following the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB)’s arrest a group of Ukrainians who allegedly infiltrated into Crimea to organise terrorist attacks at key facilities on the peninsula. According to the FSB, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence was behind the attempt. Russia is considering retaliatory acts against the Crimea plot which likely include the break-off of the diplomatic ties with Ukraine.
