Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for the UN Secretary General, said at a regular news conference in New York that the earlier test was “very concerning” and was another violation of Security Council resolutions.

On Thursday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that North Korea’s Academy of National Defense Science successfully tested a new type of submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM).

The launch of the Pukkuksong-3 missile occurred Wednesday from the waters off Wonsan Bay on North Korea’s east coast. KCNA said the test will not harm the security of any neighboring countries.

Earlier, the South Korean military said it had detected the launch of a missile that flew 450 km and reached an altitude of 910 km.

The Japanese government previously said  it appeared North Korea had launched two missiles, one of which fell inside Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe condemned the launch, saying it was a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
