The US government and its allies on Monday announced they will impose more sanctions against North Korea following after its February nuclear test. At the opening ceremony of the Asia Meeting in New York City, Tom Donilon, the US National Security Advisor, said the sanctions that target three leaders of North Korea’s Foreign Trade bank and Paek Se-Bong, Chairman of the Second Economic Commission, who are accused by the US of being involved in financial transactions which violate earlier UN sanctions. The same day, at a UN conference in Geneva, Sweden, the EU and Japan suggested creating a committee to investigate human rights in North Korea. The US supported this suggestion as a way to put more pressure on North Korea. Some Asian diplomats expressed their hope that the UN human rights council will vote to pass a resolution to create such a committee.
