US President concludes State visit to Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump left Hanoi on Sunday afternoon, concluding his 2-day State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.

During the visit, President Trump held talks with President Quang, witnessed the signing of documents, met with media, paid courtesy visit to Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong and met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Both sides issued a Joint Statement. During meetings, they reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties on the basis of previous Joint Statements, respect for the UN Charter, international law, and respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political system. Both sides pledged to expand bilateral trade and investment ties through official mechanisms, including the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). They committed to seek solutions to pending issues in trade and agriculture, including catfish, shrimps, and mangos. Vietnam and the US pledged to boost free and fair trade and investment in prioritized areas, including e-payment service, automobile and intellectual property rights. Both sides reconfirmed the importance of continued cooperation to overcome war consequences, committed to work with Vietnam in searching for information about Vietnamese soldiers missing in action, and supported the strengthened relationship between the two peoples.
