(VOVworld) - US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation on Monday on international issues and agreed on a meeting in coming days.

According to the US Department of State’s announcement, the two officials discussed the political process in Syria, the fight against the IS, the situations in the Middle East and Ukraine, North Korea’s recent H-bomb test, and the bilateral relations. A spokesperson for the US Department of State John Kirby said both agreed on keeping close contact toward holding a future talk.

In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation reiterated its support to UN Special Envoy on Syria Staffan de Mistura in organizing talks between the Syrian government and opposition factions.
